MOORESTOWN, NJ — The new coronavirus outbreak in New Jersey and across the nation is having vast impacts in Moorestown, including the closure of schools and many businesses.

As of Wednesday morning, there were 223 positive cases of coronavirus in Moorestown. While the county has 34 deaths listed in Moorestown, the state has 43 deaths listed among Moorestown’s nursing homes.

On Tuesday, State Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli ordered all long-term care facilities in the state to implement testing of staff and residents for the virus by May 26.

FUNDRAISING
ThePerkins Center is in need of more than $120,000 after being forced to cancel its events and programs in the wake of Gov. Phil Murphy's stay-at-home order. This included its largest annual fundraiser, Handcrafted 2020.

STATE RANKINGS
As of the weekend, Moorestown ranked 213th out of 565 towns in the state, with 10.32 cases per 1,000 people.

SPORTS CANCELLED
When Gov. Phil Murphy announced that schools would be closed for the rest of the academic year, he also announced that the spring sports season would be cancelled. After that, the organizers of the annual Carpenter Cup baseball and softball tournaments announced that those events would be cancelled as well.

GRACE PERIOD EXTENDED
Moorestown has extended the grace period for taxes that were due on May 1. They grace period to pay without penalty has been extended to June 1. The deadline was originally May 11.
