Local Sea Cadet program is accepting new recruits to Chart Their Course!

Youth program orientation meeting on Saturday, August 29th at 1pm.

The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps has openings for a limited number of young people ages 11-17 to join the crew of NSCC AEGIS Division. Interviews and an information session will be held at the Eden-Stanley Post 294 of the American Legion in Pemberton, NJ, on Saturday, August 29th, beginning at 1:00 PM.

The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps was established in 1958 to create a favorable image of the Navy on the part of American youth.

Today’s U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps continues to further the image of our maritime services by adhering to a standardized training program designed to:

  1. Develop an interest and ability in seamanship and seagoing skills
  2. Instill virtues of good citizenship and strong moral principles in each cadet
  3. Demonstrate the value of an alcohol-free, drug-free and gang-free lifestyle
  4. Expose cadets to the prestige of public service and a variety of career paths through hands-on training with our nation’s armed services

NSCC AEGIS Division is one of the NSCC’s oldest units, established in 1961. Our cadets train at the Navy Operational Support Center at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst one weekend per month (September through June), often beginning on the last Friday of the month at 7:30 PM, ending that Sunday at 4 PM. Additional community service and color guard activities are also held throughout the year.

The program is managed by volunteers dedicated to instilling the core values of Pride, Service, and Patriotism. Training scheduled for the year generally includes Fire Safety, Swimming Qualifications, CPR and First Aid, Military Drill, Modern Army Combatives, and Safe Boating.

Sea Cadets wear a modified Navy uniform and can participate in a multitude of advanced training programs, including: at-sea training with the Navy and Coast Guard, submarine orientation, Sea Perch training (remotely operated underwater vehicles), aviation training, field operations, and international exchanges.

Cadets and staff from NSCC AEGIS Division have attended a variety of trainings over the last twelve months – NSCC Recruit Training (aka Boot Camp), Petty Officer Leadership Academy, NSCC Field Operations, NLCC Orientation (mini boot camp for cadets under 14), CERT training, Seamanship and Recruiting Station Training (working side-by-side with Navy recruiters in their daily job).

Adult volunteers, with or without military experience, are also needed to allow the Sea Cadet program to grow. Those with seamanship, engineering, administrative, and fund-raising skills are especially needed. Interested adults are encouraged to register for the session on August 29th.

To register for the session, please e-mail us at recruiting@nsccaegisdivision.org. While registration is not required, it is recommended.
