Marine, Attorney From Moorestown Passed Away On New Year's Day

Noel B. Butler, age 89, of Moorestown, NJ entered eternal life on January 1, 2018.

Noel B. Butler, age 89, of Moorestown, NJ entered eternal life on January 1, 2018. Born in Newark, NJ on August 14, 1928, Noel was the son of James J. Butler and Maura “Mary” Moroney. Growing up in Newark, Noel attended Saint Patrick’s Cathedral School and Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. He earned his undergraduate degree at Seton Hall and his law degree at St. John’s University. As a young man, Noel served his country with courage and honor as a member of the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.

Following his admission to the New York State Bar Association and being committed to the ideal that government serves the people, Noel continued a life of public service as an attorney in the Appellate Division of the Internal Revenue Service. Following retirement from a distinguished career, Noel enjoyed an encore career working at the New Jersey Department of Insurance and found fulfilling work serving as a volunteer at the Office of the Public Defender in Monmouth County.

Noel is predeceased by his beloved wife, Ann B. Butler, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. He is survived by, and will be greatly missed, by his daughters: Noel Savini (Daniel), Bernadette Baumgardner (John), Ann Marie Butler; grandchildren, Ryan and Amanda Savini and Brendan Baumgardner; Granddogs, Murphy, Alphie and Sancho El Segundo.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 5, 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel, 42 West Main Street, Moorestown, NJ. A private interment will take place on Monday, January 8, at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.

In lieu of flowers and to honor a man whose life was defined by kindness and generosity in the service of others, the family encourages all to perform an act of charity in his memory.

The family wishes to express gratitude to the wonderful community of caregivers at Brightview Mount Laurel and to those at Samaritan Hospice who cared for Noel with patience, grace and love.
