Moorestown CVS to Begin Selling Heroin Antidote Without a Prescription
CVS will begin selling Narcan/Naloxone over-the-counter at all Burlington County stores.

CVS will begin selling Narcan/Naloxone, the antidote that reverses the effects of a heroin overdose, without a prescription in its Burlington County stores, including Moorestown, the Burlington County Times reports.
Narcan has been deemed non-addictive, and the pharmacy already sells the antidote without a prescription in its stores in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. On Monday, the pharmacy announced it would sell the antidote in 12 additional states, including New Jersey, according to the report. It is available in all CVS stores nationwide for those who have a prescription.
The Overdose Prevention Act now allows doctors the ability to prescribe the opiate antidote Narcan (naloxone) to those in a position to help someone else during an overdose of heroin or other opioids. The law also eliminates civil and criminal liability to anyone who administers naloxone.

Police throughout the state also carry the antidote and have used it to revive overdose victims on the scene.
Local police tell the newspaper it doesn’t have an issue with the store selling the antidote, as long as it does so responsibly.
