MOORESTOWN, NJ — The start of the Moorestown High School Senior Trip to Florida was delayed by 1 day for about half of the students who intended to go, the district superintendent told Patch.

"Circumstances outside of the district's control — weather conditions, airline delays and airline staffing issues — delayed the start of the senior class trip to Florida" this past weekend for about half of the students scheduled to go on the trip, Michael Volpe, the district superintendent, said in a statement emailed to Patch.

The delayed students were sent home Saturday, flew down on Sunday and ultimately joined the part of the Moorestown High School group that had arrived the previous day.

"The district is working with the travel agent to provide refunds for those impacted by the delays," according to Volpe's statement. "We are grateful to our staff and students for managing this frustrating situation with patience."

The students are said to be "enjoying their time" at Disney's Magic Kingdom, Volpe said.

Students in several other New Jersey school districts also experienced changes in their senior trip plans.

NJ.com reported that the flight some Gateway Regional High School students were supposed to take to Orlando on Monday morning got canceled, while 6ABC.com reported a similar situation with a group of students from West Deptford High School.

The flight problems were also experienced by some of those trying to come from Florida.

Pinelands Regional High School students needed a charter flight and transportation help from nearby Central Regional School District to complete their journey, according to Pinelands' Facebook page.
