Moorestown Man is New President of It Takes a Village

Jason Scala has assumed the leadership role at the non-profit organization in the wake of the previous president and founder's death.

Moorestown, NJ -- A Moorestown man has assumed the leadership role of the locally-based It Takes a Village New Jersey.

Jason Scala is the non-profit organization’s new president in the wake of the death late last year of Irwin Herman.

Scala is a mechanical engineer, and work for the same company as Herman. He lives in Moorestown with his wife, Sarah, and her two daughters.

Irwin and Trudi Herman founded It Takes a Village in 2011.The organization is a non-profit organization for residents 50 and over that provides a range of home, shopping and social services at no cost.

It currently has volunteers in Moorestown, Cinnaminson, Delran, Maple Shade, Hainesport and Mount Laurel. They are always looking to expand because the need is everywhere, Trudi Herman said.

"We only ask our volunteers to do one day with one client, for a couple of hours," she said.

It meets to train volunteers on the last Tuesday of every month. It will also be recruiting volunteers at the Burlington County Volunteer Fair on Saturday, April 16, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Burlington County Library, 5 Pioneer Boulevard in Westampton.

It will hold its next general meeting, which is open to the public, on Thursday, April 7, 7 p.m. at the library. Burlington County Director of the Office of Aging Linda Cushing will be the guest speaker, and there will be special music.
