Moorestown Rotary Club Donates $30K In Scholarships To Graduating Seniors

Each of 12 graduating Moorestown High School seniors will receive a $2,500 scholarship.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — The Rotary Club of Moorestown has awarded a total of $30,000 in college scholarships this year to 12 Moorestown High School graduating seniors, the club announced this week.
The students were honored during the Rotary Club’s lunch meeting on June 15, where Rotarians heard from the students about their college of choice and major. They will each receive $2,500.

Moorestown High School Guidance Director Kat D’Ambra was in attendance, and praised all students recognized at the school’s Senior Recognition Reception held on June 13. She especially commended the scholarship recipients, and thanked the club for all its support.

“Everyone in the district is incredibly proud of all of our graduates. Congratulations to the class of 2017 and thank you, Rotary, for all you do for us” D’Ambra said.

In its many years of scholarship giving, the Rotary Club of Moorestown has awarded $634,000 to promising and deserving high school seniors. Started in 1963 with a $1,000 scholarship covering all four years at Glassboro State, the program has grown in strength and number to help students with today’s tuition costs.

Rotarians raise funds for the scholarships through annual projects including the Scott Coffee 8K Memorial Run, held the first Saturday in June, and the Rotary Pancake Breakfast to be held in the fall this year. The club thanks the entire community for its support of these events.

The main objective of Rotary is service: in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today’s most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence.

They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career development. The Rotary motto is "Service Above Self."
