Moorestown's David Gentile Immortalized at Familiar Tennis Courts

A plaque honoring David Gentile was placed at the Maple Dawson Park tennis courts and the Rec Center lobby.

David Gentile is now immortalized on the tennis courts he frequented as a child, the Moorestown Sun reports.

A plaque in honor of David Gentile was unveiled on July 13 in the Rec Center lobby. Another plaque was installed at the tennis courts at Maple Dawson Park, where he played as a child, according to the report.

Gentile was paralyzed from the neck down in a Moorestown football game in 1979.

After he was paralyzed, he spent 10 years on the recreation advisory board.

He died in 2001 at the age of 36.

A skatepark named in his honor opened in 2002 after his mother made a$120,000 donation, but it was demolished in 2013.

At the time of the demolition, Township officials promised his name would not be forgotten.

Last year, the Recreation Advisory Committee suggested naming the tennis courts after him.
