Specialized Subacute Care Offering at Lumberton, N.J., SNF First of its Kind for Region

Mount Holly Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Lumberton has launched a Stroke Recovery Program under the direction of Tracey Harris, MD, who is affiliated with Virtua Medical Group. It is the first specialized subacute care offering of its kind for the region.
Mount Holly’s Stroke Recovery services are tailored to meet the specific needs and goals of an individual, dependent on how they have been impacted by a stroke. The program aims to help restore physical function and the ability to perform daily activities, gain strength and endurance, improve balance and mobility, manage pain and spasticity, overcome speech and communication deficits, and develop new cognitive strategies.
“The importance of a Stroke Recovery Program like this is clear,” said Dr. Harris. “Many conditions experienced after a stroke can and do improve with specialized rehabilitation. Mount Holly designed its Stroke Recovery Program to meet the rigorous science-based requirements of the American Heart Association’s (AHA’s) new Skilled Nursing Facility Stroke Rehabilitation Certification. It is the first subacute facility in the region actively pursuing this recently-introduced certification by the AHA, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health. The certification’s guidelines for stroke rehabilitation include program management, patient and caregiver education and support, care coordination, clinical management and quality improvement.
“This PM&R-led program – designed to meet the AHA’s evidence-based standards of care for stroke survivors – reflects Mount Holly’s commitment to next-level skilled nursing care,” said Kate Bauer, regional director of market development at Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports the center. “Mount Holly has demonstrated experience in stroke recovery care; the creation of this specialized offering is a natural extension of that. The center is pleased to have Dr. Harris lead the initiative with the support of Mount Holly’s talented team of specialists.”
