New State Aid Figures Announced For Moorestown Schools

Gov. Phil Murphy released new state aid figures this week amid the coronavirus pandemic.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Gov. Phil Murphy released new state aid figures on Wednesday, including the specifics on a reduction of state aid that had been allocated for the Moorestown Public School District from February.

Moorestown schools will receive $3,883,882 in state aid for the 2020-21 school year. This is down by $239,894 from the $4,123,776 in state aid announced by the state in February, before the coronavirus pandemic took hold.

However, it is up from the $3,772,135 in state aid the district received for the 2019-20 school year. The difference is $111,747, or about 3 percent.

Earlier this month, the district announced it would tap into some of its surplus funds to make up the difference in state aid. The amount that will be taken out of the surplus is the exact difference between what was announced in February and what was announced in July, according to Moorestown Public School District Business Administrator James Heisler. Funding for all school districts remains consistent with what Murphy announced in July, keeping the state on track to fully fund public schools.
