RCBC To Hold Information Session For New Medical Billing Program

The program aims to increase the number of qualified applicants who can fill the growing demand for medical billers.

Students at Rowan College at Burlington County can get into the healthcare field in less than a year thanks to a new program offered by the college, officials said this week.

Rowan College at Burlington County’s new Medical Billing Specialist program was designed by the college in partnership with local employers. It aims to increase the number of qualified applicants who can fill the growing demand for medical billers.

“I’m really excited to work with RCBC on this new certification program, as there is a growing demand for qualified medical billers,” Acentus Practice Management President Crystal MacNeill said. “RCBC was willing to develop a meaningful program to meet our specific needs.”

The courses are designed for students who have no prior experience in medical offices and cover such topics as records management, medical communication, anatomy and physiology, claims processing and billing, in addition to related subjects.

The college said students who complete the billing certificate will have a head start toward Rowan College at Burlington County’s Coding Certificate program.

“This new certificate is a perfect example of how Rowan College at Burlington County can respond quickly to the needs of local employers to provide the skills they need and our students with the opportunity to immediately enter the workforce in a high-demand, high-growth field,” Rowan College at Burlington County President Dr. Michael A. Cioce said. “If you are looking to enter a healthcare career that will continue to grow and offer advancement opportunities, I encourage you to explore this new certificate.”

The number of jobs offered in the field of medical records and health information technicians — including medical billers — will increase 13 percent by 2026, which is higher than most occupations, according to labor data project numbers used by the college.

Coding and billing are integral to healthcare. Aspiring medical billers who hold certification have better job prospects in this field, and professionals with credentials can expect higher salaries, college officials said.

The college will host a free Health Information Management Information Sessions in Room 350 of the Health Sciences Center at its Mount Laurel campus on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 4 p.m. For more information, visit rcbc.edu/him.
