Regional History Bee Finals At Moorestown Friends School Friday

Moorestown Friends middle schoolers will compete in the competition for a spot in the National Finals.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Students at Moorestown Friends School will compete in the Philadelphia (South) Regional Final of the National History Bee this week, the school announced. They will have homefield advantage because this year’s South Region Final is taking place at Moorestown Friends School.

The event, which will be one of 40 regional finals nationwide, is set for Friday, April 20, the school announced. All nine Moorestown Friends middle schoolers in Grades 6-8 who sat for the initial online exam qualified for the Regional Finals, according to the school.

Now, they will compete against the region’s top students in grades up to and including eighth grade for a spot in the National Finals. They will be joined by 240 other area middle schoolers and their families for the regional competition for an event attendance of close to 500 people.

The competition is an exciting buzzer-based competition (think Jeopardy!) that is both fun and academically rigorous. Question content is split evenly between United States and non-United States history and is generally relevant to 5th through 8th grade social studies curricula. Qualifiers and champions are invited to compete in the National Finals in the first weekend in June.

Check-in will be between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., with testing in the Dining Hall Commons from 5:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Buzzer competitions in the classrooms will run from 5:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The award ceremony is 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
