TD Bank Partners with Women's Opportunity Center to Bring Change to Burlington

Green Friday Fundraiser August 7 at TD Bank's Ark Road Store

TD Bank, American’s Most Convenient Bank®, is pleased to announce an exciting partnership through the “Bring Change” program with the Women’s Opportunity Center, a program of the YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties located at the Burlington-Riverfront YMCA, a displaced homemakers center located in Burlington.

In an effort to aid the Women’s Opportunity Center as a guide for women through their toughest times, TD Bank’s Mt. Laurel store will be hosting “Green Friday” on Friday, August 7 from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. at their Ark Road Mt. Laurel store. On Green Friday, all customers who use the store’s Penny Arcade will have the opportunity to donate a portion of their change – up to $2,000 – to the Women’s Opportunity Center.

In addition to all customer change donations made at the Penny Arcade on Green Friday, TD Bank will match a portion of the donations and donate them to the Women’s Opportunity Center. The funds will help women and their families who are on their journey to self sufficiency.

“We’re more than your bank, we’re also your neighbor,” said Vinoo Vijay, Chief Marketing Officer, TD Bank. “Our children attend the same schools, play in the same parks, and walk down the same streets. So it’s important to us to give back to the communities where we live, work, and play. We believe the Women’s Opportunity Center exemplifies the values we cherish, and we’re honored to help them achieve their goal of helping displaced homemakers achieve self sufficiency.”

The partnership grows out of TD Bank’s “Bring Change” program, which supports local organizations that are making a real difference in the communities TD serves. The program also assists individuals recovering from hardships, such as illness or natural disaster.

The Women’s Opportunity Center has been helping displaced homemakers for 24 years – women who have lost financial support due to separation, divorce, death or disability of a spouse. The Center is committed to help women gain economic self-sufficiency through education, job readiness, networking, outreach, referrals and emotional support. It also promotes awareness of women’s rights and issues through public advocacy.

“When you help yourself, or when you reach out to help another woman, you help everyone,” said Cathi Rendfrey, Director, Women’s Opportunity Center. “You help your mother, your sister, your child, your friend. We are all connected.”

Starting on May 8 and extending through February 2016, TD’s coin-counting Penny Arcades in 500 select stores will serve as designated hubs to collect change and fund local community initiatives across the company’s Maine to Florida footprint. Customers and the community are invited to donate all or a portion of their coins counted, which TD Bank will match with a donation of up to $2,000, awarding more than $1 million to worthy recipients.

“We’re excited to partner with our customers to support the causes that matter most to them - and to us,” said Vijay. “It all starts with donating a few spare coins. Because small change can have a big impact.”
