Two Moorestown High School Wrestlers to Compete for State Title

Tyreek Smith and Anthony Williamson will compete for titles at 220 and 170 pounds, respectively.

A pair of Moorestown High School wrestlers will compete for a state championship this weekend in Atlantic City.

Tyreek Smith and Anthony Williamson advanced to the state tournament following second-place finishes at the Region 7 tournament at Robbinsville over the weekend, according to nj.com.

Smith, the District 26 champion, will compete for a state title at 220 pounds following a 6-4 loss to No. 2 seeded David Dudow, of Pennsauken, in the regional final. Smith entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed.

Smith advanced to the final with an ultimate tiebreaker victory over No. 4 Izreal Brooks, of Eastern Regional, in the semifinals. In the quarterfinals, Smith defeated No. 8 Dazmier Warren, of Pemberton, 5-1.

Williamson will compete for a state title at 170 pounds following a major decision loss to Holy Cross’s Kenny Long, the No. 1 seed, in the regional final.

He entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed, and advanced to the final with a 6-1 win over No. 3 Christopher Stout, of Hamilton West, in the semifinals. He also defeated No. 7 Liam McDermott, of Allentown, 9-2 in the quarterfinals after downing No. 15 Connor Gross, of Shawnee, 10-6, in the first round.
