Navy Veteran, Moorestown Volunteer Dies At 70

Jeffrey Tait was an airline pilot for 50 years.

Jeffrey Tait, of Moorestown, NJ, passed away on April 11, 2017, after a long battle with cancer, at the age of 70.

Jeff served in the US Navy in the 1960's aboard diesel electric submarines, which he described as interesting times.

Following military discharge, Jeff graduated college and began a 50-year career as an airline pilot and corporate pilot moving about the country until finally settling in NJ. He flew corporate jets and helicopters for 35 years before retiring 2 years ago.

Since then, Jeff earned his glider pilot rating, and renewed his flight instructor license and received the FAA Wright Brothers "Master Pilot" Award.

Jeff enjoyed volunteer activities in Moorestown, serving on zoning and planning boards and was a member of the Relief Engine Co. for 16 years. He very much enjoyed serving and working with such a fine group of volunteers.

He enjoyed water skiing and mountain climbing, and traveling with his beloved, Lonnie, throughout the USA and Europe.

Husband of 48 years of Lonnie (nee Higgins) Also survived by his daughters Chris and Jessica, his brothers, Stephen, Eric, Christopher, and Stuart. Jeff was one of 5 sons of the late George and Phyllis Tait.

Memorial service is 11 a.m. Friday at the Lewis Funeral Home, 78 East Main Street, Moorestown, NJ. Visitation is Friday, 10 a.m.-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment Private.
