Celebrate the Conclusion of Morristown Green's Bicentennial Year

Back in 1816, the Trustees of Morristown Green​ purchased the 2.62-acres for $1,600 from the Presbyterian Church.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — 2016 was the bicentennial of Morristown Green, which was founded in April 1816. To celebrate the end of the year-long celebration, the Trustees of Morristown Green are holding a free celebration at Morristown Green from 2-3 p.m. Oct. 16.

Residents are invited to enjoy live music, view a special exhibit about Morristown Green, and participate in a ceremonial tree-planting.

Characters from the musical "Hamilton" — such as George Washington, the Marquis de Lafayette and Alexander Hamilton — will be in attendance, and will take questions and pose for photographs with atteendees.

The Trustees of Morristown Green bought the 2.62-acres for $1,600 from the Presbyterian Church back in 1816. Morristown Green is one of only two Greens to have lasted to the 21st Century in New Jersey — the other is the Military Park in Newark.

Since 1816, the Trustees remain responsible for maintaining the Green and preserving the space as a popular, family-friendly spot in Morristown.

Atteendees are asked to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs. The event will take place rain or shine, and the Presbyterian Church at 57 East Park Place will be used as the rain location.
