Chris Christie Calls Trump Criticism Of The Khans 'Inappropriate' [VIDEO]

Gov. Chris Christie took issue Tuesday with Donald Trump's criticism of a mother and father who lost their son in war in Iraq, saying any such statements would be "inappropriate" — even if they've been critical of the GOP presidential nominee.

Christie, speaking during a press conference on education, said he cannot imagine losing a child in war and "we need to honor their sacrifice for our country and we need to honor their son's sacrifice to our country."

"It's just inappropriate for us in this context to be criticizing them, and I'm not going to participate in that," Christie said.

Christie was responding to Trump's controversial remarks regarding the family of Capt. Humayun Khan, an Army officer killed in Iraq in 2004.

Khan's parents, Khizr and Ghazala, appeared at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on Thursday, criticizing Trump's call for banning Muslims from entering the United States.

Khizr, who spoke publicly, said Trump disparages Muslims and has “sacrificed nothing and no one,” pulling out his pocket-size Constitution and said he doubted Trump had ever read it and invited the candidate to borrow his.

Trump responded to the couple, saying he was "viciously attacked," and suggested Ghazala Kahn wasn't allowed to talk during the convention.

Here is one of Trump's tweets on the matter:

Christie, however, said the couple have "a right to say whatever they want, whether they're right or wrong."

Christie, who said he didn't see Khan's speech, said that honoring the couple's sacrifice is the way to respond to their critical remarks, and "anything other than that is missing the point."

"You're not going to find me being critical of Mr. and Mrs. Kahn, no matter what they do, even if I may disagree with them," he said.
