Horse Euthanized on Rt. 287 After Being Struck by Car Friday Morning

Two equines ran loose on interstate, report says.

A New Jersey State Trooper was forced to shoot and kill a horse on Rt. 287 Friday morning after the equine was struck by a car near mile marker 35.1.

According to nj.com, two horses ran loose from a private residence, making their way onto the highway around 4:30 a.m. One was struck by a Toyota Corolla in the left lane of the northbound side, the report said.

When the owner of the horses arrived on scene, police were advised to euthanize the injured horse because of its injuries, the report said.

The driver of the Corolla was not injured but his vehicle sustained severe front-end damage, the report said. The second horse was not hurt and able to return home by trailer, the report said.
