Man Jumped from Parking Deck in Suicide Attempt, Cops Say

Authorities still investigation; alleged jumper is still alive.

A man found in the roadway on Spring Street Thursday afternoon allegedly jumped from a parking garage in an apparent suicide attempt, authorities said.

At 4:41 p.m., Morristown police were dispatched for a report of a man down in the roadway behind Headquarters Plaza, Lt. Stuart Greer said. A 21-year-old man was located with severe injuries to his head and body, Greer said.

Police administered first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. At that point the man was transported to Morristown Medical Center for treatment and evaluation, Greer said.

An investigation found witnesses who advised police the man was seen on the P1 level of the parking deck shortly before he was found in the roadway, Greer said. Police also learned the man had made suicidal statements to friends and family prior to the incident, Greer said.

No criminal involvement is suspected but the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is requested to contact Det. Teddy Jones at 973-292-6642.

Greer could not comment on the man’s condition but said he is still alive.
