Small Fire Under Investigation at Colgate-Palmolive

No one was hurt in the mid-afternoon blaze in Morris Township.

A small fire broke out at Colgate-Palmolive on East Hanover Avenue in Morris Township shortly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday according to Morris Township Committeeman Daniel Caffrey.

According to Caffrey, who helped swear in new career firefighter Joshua Wing at Wednesday night’s Morris Township Committee meeting, said that the fire was not a big deal but it could have been a lot worse.

“It was a very small incident and it probably won’t get a lot of press,” Caffrey said. “A small working fire that worked its way up into the rafters but it ended up being a non-event.”

Caffrey said the fire was extinguished quickly and caused little damage and a moderate smoke condition. Caffrey said that their firefighting squad setup contributed to the quick action.

“We are unique in that we have a good volunteer division and a career division,” Caffrey said. “A great team.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and the building was reopened around 4 p.m.

“The employees had to stand outside,” Caffrey said. “Not the best day for it with this cold, but it could have been worse.”
