Chef's Community Table - A Brand New Kind of Food Drive

A group of Morristown restaurants, civic organizations & companies have partnered on a 1st of its kind food drive to help fight hunger

Called Chef’s Community Table, it’s designed to let people purchase meals from some of their favorite local restaurants to donate and support someone struggling with tough times. The six local restaurants offering some of their most popular dishes are: The Grand Cafe, The Office, Washington Bistro, George and Martha’s, Fredy’s and Cosi’s.

The campaign is being supported by The Junior League of Morristown, The Morristown Partnership and Curbing Hunger. “We are proud to support Chef’s Community Table and help rally support to bring an end to food insecurity and hunger in the Morris County area,” says Madi Grob, President of the Junior League of Morristown.

The campaign is using a crowd-feeding website called Amp Your Good which enables people to make an online purchase of the meals they want to donate. Once the campaign is over, each restaurant will prepare the meals and deliver them directly to the Market Street Mission.

The campaign is the brainchild of Philip St Jacques of St Jacques Marketing, based in Morristown. “We saw an opportunity to bring the community together to address an unfortunate ongoing issue - hunger. We thought the idea that a person could donate a high quality meal to help someone who is struggling would be appealing to people - and it turns out we were right.”

The campaign has already raised 200 meals and is shooting to more than double that by the time it’s done.

According to David Scott, Executive Director of the Market Street Mission, “This is a really unique way to meet the needs of the poor with nutritious food.”

Ray Luetters, Washington Street Bisto, put it this way, “Why can’t they have fresh carrots, fresh meat, things that are local and enjoyable to eat.”

And that’s the point, according to St Jacques, “People struggling with hunger have a tough time getting access to healthy food, providing someone a freshly made meal really makes a difference.”
