Flash Flood Warning Issued For Morris County

A flash flood warning is in effect for Morris County until 5:30 p.m. Monday, the National Weather Service said.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A flash flood warning has been issued for Morris County by the National Weather Service (NWS) until 5:30 p.m. and more thunderstorms are expected through 10 p.m. this evening.

The NWS specifically mentioned the following Morris county towns in its flood warning statement:

  • Morristown
  • Newton
  • Dover
  • Hopatcong
  • East Hanover
  • Kinnelon
  • Hackettstown
  • Boonton
  • Butler
  • Wharton
  • Rockaway
  • Morris Plains

Thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the state were indicated by NWS radar, with a half-inch to one inch of rain falling, with an additional one to two inches possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in Morris County, NWS warned.

The rain could cause flooding in small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses, as well as other low-lying and poorly-drained areas, NWS said.

Residents are advised not to attempt to drive through floodwaters and to report any observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement.
