I-80 Exit In Morris County To Be Closed For Weeks: See Details
The repairs are part of a larger project that is expected to be completed next year.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Motorists in Mount Arlington will see a two-week detour on I-80 starting Monday as work continues on the Bridges over Howard Boulevard replacement project in Morris County.
The I-80 eastbound Exit 30 ramp to Howard Boulevard is scheduled to close at 3 a.m. Monday, and remain closed until 6 a.m. Friday, May 1, according to the project notice.
The closure affects drivers using the eastbound ramp to Howard Boulevard and Mount Arlington. According to the notice, the shutdown is needed so crews can perform traffic signal foundation work at the end of the ramp. The timing could change because of the weather or other factors.

During the closure, drivers on I-80 eastbound who want Exit 30 to Howard Boulevard will be directed to continue east to Exit 34 for Route 15, Wharton, Dover and Sparta. From there, motorists are to stay right at the end of the ramp to continue on North Main Street/CR 634 toward Route 15 and Picatinny Arsenal, turn right onto Route 15 southbound, take the first ramp to I-80 westbound toward Delaware Water Gap, and then use Exit 30 to Howard Boulevard and Mount Arlington.
The ramp work is part of a $65.4 million federally funded project to replace the existing I-80 eastbound and westbound bridges over Howard Boulevard/CR 516. According to transportation officials, the bridges are in poor condition.

The larger project includes raising the vertical clearance of each bridge, widening shoulders, lengthening acceleration and deceleration lanes on I-80, and widening ramps to and from Howard Boulevard. The Howard Boulevard intersection will also be reconfigured to improve operational performance.
Other planned improvements include upgraded traffic signals and lighting, along with ADA-compliant sidewalks and crosswalks. Sidewalks will also be extended to the Mount Arlington Train Station to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety and mobility, according to the project description.
The bridge replacement project is expected to be completed in summer 2027. For now, drivers using Exit 30 eastbound should plan extra time and follow the posted detour while the ramp remains closed.
