Meet 'Spike,' Mendham Township School District's New AI Assistant
Mendham Township School District now offers an AI assistant on its website to help users find information more efficiently.
MENDHAM, NJ — The Mendham Township School District (MTSD) has launched a new AI-powered website assistant named “Spike.” This tool is designed to improve communication and enhance the user experience for families, staff, and community members. Visitors to the school district's website can now interact directly with Spike to navigate the site and locate important information more efficiently.
Spike is built on Druid AI’s conversational AI platform and functions as a digital receptionist for the district website. It provides continuous assistance to users. Individuals can ask questions using natural language and receive immediate, accurate responses based on district content. Spike is available 24/7, extending the district’s responsiveness beyond regular office hours.
Spike described itself as "cheerful, concise, and here to help" when Patch interacted with it.

“This is rooted in our belief that we should give our community the best communication possible,” said Superintendent of Schools Salvatore M. Constantino. “Spike is all-encompassing, from helping families find what’s for lunch to reviewing a specific policy.”
Joseph Kim, President and CEO of Druid AI, commented that always-on, accurate digital service is becoming essential for every community. Kim noted that Spike demonstrates how AI, when built with governance and transparency at its core, can make information instantly accessible while allowing staff to focus on higher-impact work. By answering high-volume questions instantly, Spike helps district staff concentrate on the more complex needs of community members.

The district encourages community members to visit its website and locate Spike in the bottom right-hand corner of the website to test its features. This new tool aims to streamline access to information such as performance dates, registration forms, and lunch menus, reducing wait times for common inquiries.
