Morristown Mayor: Don't Run On South Street—Please
With patrons partaking in outdoor dining, Tim Dougherty asks that runners find another route.
MORRISTOWN, NJ - While he isn't taking enforcement steps yet, Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty asked for runner to avoid running on South Street.
"Morristown has many beautiful side roads, trails and parks that are perfect for our runners and walkers", he said in a statement.
Dougherty noted that South Street restaurants that are using the outdoor spaces for their patrons is one of the reasons for his request.

"Diners will not be wearing face masks while eating and patronizing these restaurants", he said. "There is some evidence that runners should practice 12-16 feet of social and physical distance due to their heavier breathing, which would be difficult to do while running along South Street."
Dougherty said the downtown is just too busy with outdoor diners and pedestrian traffic to practically and safely social and physical distance.
