MORRISTOWN, NJ — Forecasters expect a mix of wintery precipitation in the Morristown area when a storm hits Thursday night. The wet weather could bring 1-3 inches of snow and ice accumulation of up to a third of an inch, according to the National Weather Service.

The agency issued a winter storm watch in the area from 7 p.m. Thursday to 1 p.m. Friday. The Friday morning commute window will see the greatest storm impacts, according to the National Weather Service.

The snowfall projections become higher in the northernmost parts of the state, with 4-6 inches projected in the Sussex County area. Here are the National Weather Service's snowfall and ice projections as of Wednesday afternoon:

A few power outages and instances of tree damage may occur because of the ice, according to the winter storm watch.

  • Thursday: A slight chance of rain and snow before 1 p.m., then a slight chance of rain between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. North wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
  • Thursday night: A slight chance of snow and sleet before 11 p.m., then snow between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., then sleet after 4 a.m. Low around 27. East wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
  • Friday: Rain, freezing rain, and sleet before 2 p.m., then a chance of rain, snow, and sleet between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., then a chance of rain after 3 p.m. High near 39. East wind 5 to 15 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.
  • Friday night: A slight chance of rain, mixing with snow after 7 p.m., then gradually ending. Partly cloudy, with a low around 19. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
  • Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 35.
