Poor Air Quality In Morristown, Heat Alert Issued: NJDEP
Morristown is under an air quality and heat alert until Thursday, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
MORRISTOWN, NJ — The National Weather Service has issued both a heat advisory and an air quality alert for the region, with heat index values expected to range between 100 and 104 degrees on Thursday.
According to the Weather Service, the heat advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and the air quality alert will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday.
According to the Weather Service, the combination of heat and humidity may result in heat-related illnesses.

The code orange air quality alert indicates that ozone levels may be unhealthy for sensitive groups. Individuals who are sensitive, such as the very young, the elderly, and those suffering from respiratory diseases such as asthma, should avoid strenuous activities in the afternoon and early evening.
According to the weather service, rain could provide some relief from the heat on Friday afternoon. The Weather Service predicts a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 p.m. Friday, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm.

From Wednesday until Friday, Aug. 5, the Town of Morristown will have a Cooling Center at Town Hall, 200 South Street. From 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the center will be open.
