St. Virgil's Carnival Canceled Friday Due To Rain In Greater Morristown

While the St. Virgil's Carnival won't operate Friday, the event remains on for Saturday — the carnival's last scheduled day.

MORRIS PLAINS, NJ — The St. Virgil's Carnival has been canceled for Friday evening because of heavy rain in the forecast, the parish confirmed. The carnival will not hold a rain date, but its last scheduled day remains set for 4-10 p.m. Saturday.

The Morris Plains church's carnival began Wednesday. The event occurs outside of St. Virgil's Parish (250 Speedwell Ave.).

Weather officials predict the rain will continue throughout Saturday. Here's the local forecast as of 1:30 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service:

  • Friday afternoon: Rain. High near 58. East wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Friday night: Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 47. East wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
  • Saturday: Rain. High near 50. Northeast wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Saturday night: Rain. Low around 41. Northeast wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
  • Sunday: A slight chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 53. Northeast wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
