Underground Fire Blacks Out Parts of Morristown

Businesses, residences and traffic signals along Morris Street were impacted.

An underground fire within a manhole on Ridgedale Avenue was to blame for the loss of power along Morris Street Thursday night into Friday morning, according to the Morristown Police.

According to Lt. Stuart Greer, the police received reports of outages shortly before 10 p.m. on Thursday night and businesses, traffic signals and homes along Morris Street were impacted.

As Officers worked to manage traffic at the intersections, a report was received of a fire within a manhole in the area of 64 Ridgedale Avenue and the Morristown Fire Bureau responded to investigate and JCP&L was requested, Greer said.

According to Greer, crews from JCP&L were able to fully restore power to the affected areas as of early Friday morning and will have additional personnel on scene throughout the day today to investigate the cause of this outage.

No injuries or property damage were reported as a result of this incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
