Forty-six people were charged in a major New Jersey drug and gun bust this week — the second big roundup near schools in two weeks, police said.
Police announced Monday that they arrested 46 people, recovered four firearms — including one replica — and confiscated 383 decks of heroin in an operation that was largely based in Newark.
Police also recovered 309 vials and/or bags of cocaine, 50 plastic bags of marijuana and 38 pills between Thursday and Sunday.

Police confiscated $7,800 in street value of narcotics and $4,771.39 in proceeds of drug sales this weekend.
It was the second major New Jersey heroin and gun bust near Newark schools in two weeks. Recently, 41 people were arrested, and about half as much heroin was recovered.

“This continuing operation began as a result of citizens coming forward and voicing their concerns,” Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced Monday. “In response, our officers are actively addressing these issues to make our streets safer."
"Removing guns and drugs from our neighborhoods improves the quality of life for our residents and lets criminals know that we are being vigilant when it comes to reducing crime."
Those arrested for unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose are:
- A 17-year old juvenile male from Newark, who is also charged with possession of a prohibited weapon;
- Alyde Corprew, 24, of Newark;
- Terry J. Mitchell, 27, of East Orange.
On Thursday, police responded to Cutler Street and Sixth Avenue in Newark after a concerned citizen reported a suspicious male in the area with a gun. Officers observed the youth fitting the description with a gun at the location, and he was arrested without incident.
On Friday, police received a report of a male with a gun inside a business located at South Ninth Street and Central Avenue. Officers observed the suspect, Alyde Corprew, 24, of Newark, with a gun, and he was arrested without incident. He is also charged with certain persons prohibited from weapon possession.
On Sunday, officers responded to South 13th Street near Ninth Avenue on a call of two men with a handgun. Officers observed two men, Terry J. Mitchell, 27, of East Orange, and another male, in the area and fitting the description of the suspects.

The two men fled. After a brief foot chase, Mitchell was arrested. He is also charged with certain persons prohibited from weapon possession and resisting arrest, police said.
More than 20 people were arrested and charged with possession of CDS, including (their hometowns are not listed):
- A 17-year-old male juvenile, who is also charged with distribution of CDS, distribution of CDS within 1,000 feet of a school and distribution of CDS within 500 feet of a public housing complex;
- Darryl M. Williamson, 24, who is also charged with possession of CDS and distribution of CDS;
- Black Bowens, 44, who is also charged with CDS possession with the intent to distribute;
- Dennis Veerden, 25, who is also charged with possession of CDS with intent to distribute, CDS distribution within 1,000 feet of a school;
- Paulo Silva, 47, who is also charged with CDS distribution and CDS distribution within 1,000 feet of a school;
- Elena Figeroa, 31
- Ahmad Ford, 23
- Johnnie Jones, 24, who is also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia;
- Jodi Bishop, 33;
- Zahir Robinson, 19;
- Jewell Melbourne, 19, who is also charged with burglary;
- Joshua Fant, 18, who is also charged with burglary;
- Robert Bradford, 34;
- Alyde Corprew, 24;
- Khalil Cutino, 24;
- Ikeem Rogers, 24;
- Victor C. Bryant, 27;
- A 17-year-old male juvenile, who is also charged with CDS distribution.
Also charged with possession of CDS are:
- Khaaliq Alston, 36, of Plainfield;
- Terry Mitchell, 27, of East Orange
Charles Avila, 46, of Lyndhurst, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Seventeen additional individuals were arrested for outstanding warrants and are charged with contempt of court. Eight individuals were charged with criminal trespass. Arrestees hailed from Ringold, Georgia, and Roselle and Linden, New Jersey.
