9-Car Crash Sends 6 Kids To Hospital, Newark Man Charged With DWI
The crash on Routes 1&9 sent several people to the hospital, including six toddlers, authorities say.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Police have charged a Newark man with driving while intoxicated after a nine-car crash on Routes 1&9 north near Communipaw Avenue sent several people – including six toddlers – to the hospital, a reports says.
The Monday crash took place during the afternoon rush hour when Michael Polite, 40, rear-ended a Ford Explorer with his SUV, NJ.com reported.
Authorities said that the Ford Explorer then careened into a van carrying six toddlers, which was sent crashing into a nearby Honda Accord. Meanwhile, Polite’s SUV jumped the median into oncoming traffic, which caused another five cars to crash.

Police described Polite as apparently “under the influence” at the time, but the Newark resident refused to take a field sobriety and breathalyzer test, authorities stated.
All six toddlers have since been released from the Jersey City Medical Center, NJ.com reported.
