Newark SWAT Team, Armed Suspect Have Standoff, Officials Say

BREAKING: "The incident may be domestic violence in nature, but remains unconfirmed at this time," police said.

NEWARK, NJ — A SWAT team and an allegedly armed male suspect engaged in a standoff in Essex County when the man barricaded himself inside a South 7th Street home in Newark on Wednesday, authorities say.

The Newark Department of Public Safety provided the following statement on Wednesday afternoon:

“At approximately 10:30 a.m., a police officer in the area heard shots fired and observed a suspect run into a residence. One victim has been located. No one has been reported as shot. The incident may be domestic violence in nature, but remains unconfirmed at this time.”
