Fatal Shooting In Newark, Police Fire At Suspects: Prosecutor

Prosecutors: Shortly after the shooting, officers attempted to apprehend suspects in the case, firing their service weapons in the process.

NEWARK, NJ — Essex County prosecutors are investigating a fatal shooting that took place Wednesday evening in Newark.

According to prosecutors, “unknown assailants” fatally shot a male victim assailants in the area of Bloomfield Avenue and Garside Street around 4:45 p.m. Shortly after the shooting, officers attempted to apprehend suspects in the case, firing their service weapons in the process.

Authorities are withholding the identity of the deceased victim pending notification of his next of kin. A police investigation is ongoing, prosecutors stated.
