Fire In Newark Leaves Nearly 2 Dozen Families Without A Home
Monday's blaze in Newark is the third major fire that the city has seen in the course of a week.
NEWARK, NJ — A two-alarm fire in Newark left nearly two dozen families without a home on Monday. It is the third major fire that the city has seen in the course of a week.
According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the latest fire took place early Monday morning at a five-story building at 502 Market Street.
Firefighters responded to the fire at 12:04 a.m. Although the fire was contained to the residential building, a second alarm was called at 12:10 a.m. The blaze was eventually put under control at 1:10 a.m., authorities said.

Emergency responders transported a tenant to University Hospital for evaluation of possible smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported, authorities said.
A total of 19 families – including 37 adults and three children – were relocated due to the damage, officials said.

The Newark Department of Public Safety’s arson unit is investigating the cause and origin of the fire, authorities said.

The blaze at 502 Market Street is the third major fire to take place in the city over the past week.
