Inmate Attacks Newark Cop At Hospital During Bathroom Break: Reports

The female officer suffered severe facial injuries during the alleged attack, reports say.

Newark, NJ – A Newark police officer suffered severe injuries on Thursday night after a prisoner she was guarding at University Hospital allegedly attacked her during a bathroom break, authorities said.

The alleged beating took place around 8:15 p.m., when the female officer attempted to retrieve the male inmate from a hospital restroom, RLS Media stated.

The officer reportedly suffered severe facial trauma when the inmate continuously beat her before running away from the scene, RLS Media stated.

He was located a short distance away, reports stated.

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose told NJ.com that the prisoner was returned to police custody and could face charges in connection with the alleged attack.
