Irvington Man Convicted Of Murdering Newark Teen

An Essex County man was found guilty of murder after he fatally shot a 16-year-old victim, authorities said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — An Essex County jury found an Irvington man guilty of murder last week after he shot a Newark teen to death in 2021, authorities said.

Leo Germain, 25, was convicted of first-degree murder, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

“On June 10, 2021, Germain – along with three suspects yet to be identified – conspired to shoot and kill the boy inside an apartment building on the 100-block of Seymour Avenue in Newark. The victim was shot multiple times, including once in the head.”

After a trial, the jury deliberated for a day before convicting Germain of conspiracy to commit murder, murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon.

Sentencing is set for May 19. Germain faces up to life in New Jersey state prison for the murder conviction, prosecutors said.
