Large Fire In Newark Displaces 4 Children, 7 Adults: Officials

A large fire spread across three Newark residences, leaving 11 people without homes, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A large fire spread across three Newark residences on Tuesday morning, leaving 11 people without homes. The Newark Fire Division’s Arson Unit is investigating the cause and origin of the blaze, authorities said.

Newark firefighters responded to 416 South 9th Street around 6:14 a.m. to find a three-story home and a pair of two-story homes ablaze. The fire – at first rated at two-alarms – escalated to a three-alarm blaze around 6:30 a.m. and was put under control at 6:46 a.m., according to the Newark Department of Public Safety (NDPS).

Authorities said that seven adults and four children were displaced as a result of the fire.

The NDPS initially stated that nobody was hurt in the blaze, but later reported that one Newark firefighter was transported to St. Barnabas Medical Center for treatment of an unspecified injury.
