Newark Cops Find Man and Child In Car With Heroin, Needles: Police
A three-year old child in a child seat was in the vehicle with the New York man when officers spotted him with a needle, police say.
NEWARK, NJ — Newark police arrested a New York man during the Labor Day weekend after allegedly catching him with heroin and needles in a parked car with a three-year-old child inside, authorities say.
According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, around 1 p.m. on Saturday, officers canvassing the area of Lincoln and Mercer streets near the Oscar Miles Village housing complex spotted Jacob Vandijk, 28, of Rocky Point, New York, sitting in a parked vehicle and in possession of a hypodermic needle.
A three-year old child in a child seat was also in the vehicle with Vandijk, police said.

After conducting a search, officers found Vandijk in possession of glassine envelopes of suspected heroin and multiple hypodermic needles. The officers arrested Vandijk without incident and transported the child to University Hospital for screening, authorities said.
Police charged Vandijk with Possession of CDS, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
