ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — On the 15th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, firefighters in Essex County reminded the community why they’re heroes, rescuing a baby, three adults and a dog from the third-floor balcony of a burning building, according to reports.
Authorities stated that the three-alarm fire at the three-story, mixed-use building began late Sunday afternoon near the intersection of Ferry and Market streets in Newark’s Ironbound neighborhood. A restaurant - Paleio Bar & Grill – is located on the first floor of the building and the upper levels are apartments.
Although firefighters were able to rescue a baby, three adults and a dog from the flames and heavy smoke, by the time the fire was extinguished, 10 families were left homeless, authorities said. The Red Cross stated that it aided 31 people with temporary lodging, food and clothing.
