Newark Airport Worst For Summer Cancellations In US, Report Says

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Whether it’s been bad weather, staffing woes or heavy air traffic, Newark Liberty International Airport has been the worst in the United States when it comes to cancellations so far this summer, a report says.

A recent FlightAware analysis done for CNN ranked Newark Airport at the top of a list of U.S. airports with the most summer cancellations from May 28 to July 13.

Newark Airport saw 7.9 percent of flights canceled, with another nearby airport, LaGuardia in New York, ranking second-highest at 7.4 percent. The other major airport in the area, John F. Kennedy International Airport, ranked ninth-highest at 3.5 percent, CNN reported.

Other leaders included:

• Reagan National Airport - 5.4%
• Raleigh-Durham International Airport - 4.3%
• Cleveland Hopkins International Airport - 3.7%
