Newark City Council Primary Runoff Election 2018 (Results Here)

A trio of Baraka-backed candidates for Newark City Council prevailed over their opponents during the runoff to the 2018 Primary Election.

NEWARK, NJ — A trio of candidates for Newark City Council backed by Mayor Ras Baraka prevailed over their opponents during Tuesday’s runoff to the 2018 Primary Election, according to early results.

The vote totals were relatively close, with the contest between victor Augusto Amador and Anthony Campos coming down to just 83 votes and only a few hundred votes separating winners Joseph McCallum Jr. and LaMonica R. McIver from their opponents, Tomecca Mecca Keyes and Shawn X. McCray.

The unofficial results as of Wednesday follow below, as per the Essex County Clerk’s Office.

EAST WARD

  • Augusto Amador – 1,824 votes (51.04%)
  • Anthony Campos – 1,741 (48.71%)

WEST WARD

  • Joseph McCallum Jr. – 1,378 (55.99%)
  • Tomecca Mecca Keyes – 1,079 (43.84%)

CENTRAL WARD

  • LaMonica R. McIver – 1,578 (56.32%)
  • Shawn X. McCray – 1,216 (43.4%)
