Newark Police Revive Potentially Overdosing Woman With Narcan

Police: Newark officers responded to a call for assistance at a Wakeman Avenue home and found a woman "unresponsive and breathing slowly."

NEWARK, NJ — A Newark police officer helped to potentially save an overdosing woman’s life with Narcan last week, authorities say.

The incident took place around 6:18 p.m. on Jan. 20 when Newark officers in the 2nd Precinct responded to a call for assistance at a Wakeman Avenue home. On arrival, the officers found a woman in her 40s “unresponsive and breathing slowly,” symptoms consistent with an opioid overdose, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.

The officers administered first aid and Narcan spray to the female, reviving her, authorities said.
