Newark Man Indicted For Fatal Shooting At The Stephen Crane Housing Complex

Prosecutor: The 29-year-old shot Anthony Mayse after a fistfight.

An Essex County grand jury has indicted Sadot Council, 29, of Newark, for the murder of 32-year-old Newark resident Anthony Mayse.

According to prosecutors, Mayse was fatally shot on April 28 around 12:45 p.m., when Council retrieved a handgun and fatally shot Mayse in the middle of the Stephen Crane Housing Complex following a fistfight.

Council was indicted on one count of 1st degree murder, one count of 2nd degree unlawful possession of a handgun, and one count of 2nd degree possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose.

He is currently being held on $1 million bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 15.
