Newark Man Needed A Wheelchair. These Cops Made Sure He Got One

It isn't the first time that Newark police officers have reached into their own pockets to help a community member out.

NEWARK, NJ — A group of Newark police officers recently surprised a local resident in need with a gift straight from the heart: a new wheelchair.

After learning that a resident of the Hotel Riviera on Clinton Avenue was using a broken wheelchair to get around, 5th Precinct Commander Capt. Wyhidi Wilson and officers Geoffrey Tanner and Jorge Miranda pooled their resources and bought him a new one.

It isn’t the first time that cops in Newark have reached into their own pockets to help a community member out.

There have also been multiple instances of Newark police officers taking matters into their own hands after local kids had their bicycles stolen, or damaged in a crash.
