Newark Man Smashed In Face With Propane Tank During Fight: Police

Police arrested a Newark fugitive who was wanted for allegedly smashing another man in the face with a propane gas tank.

NEWARK, NJ — Police arrested a Newark fugitive on Monday who was wanted for allegedly smashing another man in the face with a propane gas tank during an argument last month, authorities say.

Police said that during a verbal confrontation around 8 a.m. on Dec. 9 near the area of Pacific and Thomas streets, Julio P. Santos, 62, of Newark, allegedly struck a 50-year-old male victim in the face with a propane gas tank.

Emergency responders transported the victim to St. Michael’s Medical Center where he was treated and released, authorities said.

Following an investigation into the alleged assault, the NPD’s Fugitive Apprehension Team obtained an arrest warrant for Santos and apprehended him Monday “without incident,” authorities said.

Police charged Santos with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (a propane tank) and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
