Newark Police Arrest 15 During Drug Sweep At Broad and Market Streets

The operation was "a quality of life initiative aimed at addressing drug sales in the area," Newark police say.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police arrested 15 people during a recent three-day drug sweep at Broad and Market Streets, authorities announced Wednesday.

The operation was “a quality of life initiative aimed at addressing drug sales in the area,” according to a statement from Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose.

During the operation – which took place on Sept. 29 and 30 and Oct. 3 - officers confiscated 96 decks of heroin, 57 vials of cocaine and 45 Suboxone strips.

Of the 10 individuals charged with Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS), four were for distributing and six were for purchasing. The additional five arrested individuals had open warrants, authorities stated.
