NEWARK, NJ — Drive carefully on Route 21 when you approach Newark. According to city public safety officials, police have stepped up radar traffic enforcement in the area and ticketed hundreds of drivers this month alone.
On Thursday evening, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced that radar enforcement of traffic violations along Route 21 in the city has generated 210 moving violations and two vehicle tows since Sept. 9.
Of the 210 moving violations, 124 were radar summonses issued for speeding, Ambrose said.

“Our radar traffic enforcement efforts are in light of recent accidents in which people were struck, injured or killed,” Ambrose stated. “We often see an increase in motor vehicle violations on Route 21 at nights and on weekends because traffic is lighter during these times. The issuing of more than 200 summonses in two weeks is an indication that radar enforcement is an effective public safety tool.”
