Newark Residents Hold ‘Anti-Violence’ Rally After Rash Of Shootings
Another Newark anti-violence rally is planned for Wednesday, July 19, at the intersection of Broad and Market streets, organizers say.
NEWARK, NJ — Dozens of Newark residents responded to a recent series of shootings with a show of “anti-violence” on Sunday that drew support from local police.
The anti-violence rally at the intersection of Central Avenue and 1st Street – which drew around 50 people - was held to protest a recent rash of gun violence incidents that injured eight people, including a six-year-old boy.

“I support the efforts of the anti-violence rally members,” Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said. “Police need as many partners to fight crime. We can’t do it alone.”

The Newark Anti-Violence Coalition (NAVC) plans to hold another anti-violence rally at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19 at the intersection of Broad and Market streets in downtown Newark.
