Newark Sees 2 Deadly Shootings On Same Day

A fatal shooting took place in Newark on Wednesday evening. Earlier in the day, another victim died in a separate shooting.

NEWARK, NJ — A fatal shooting took place in Newark on Wednesday evening. It’s the latest tragedy in a string of deadly violence that has taken place in New Jersey’s largest city over the 2023-2024 holiday season.

The latest shooting took place around 10 p.m. on the 100-block of Ridgewood Avenue, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Officers found the victim – a male who still hasn’t been identified – outside the building with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to University Hospital and pronounced dead at 11:21 p.m.

No arrests have been made as of Thursday, authorities said.

Wednesday evening’s fatality is one of several deadly shootings that have taken place in New Jersey’s largest city over the past weeks.

Despite the latest tragic shootings, violent crime has been dropping in New Jersey's largest city, statistics show.
