Newark Teen’s Alleged Killer Arrested: Cops
Authorities have apprehended a 17-year-old suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Malik Bullock.

NEWARK, NJ — Authorities have apprehended a 17-year-old suspect in connection with Friday’s fatal shooting of Malik Bullock, a 16-year-old student at Barringer Academy of the Arts and Humanities in Newark.
The name of the 17-year-old is not being released at this time because he is a juvenile, Essex County prosecutors said.
He is being charged with murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, prosecutors said.

Authorities said that the shooting took place shortly before 3 p.m. on the 400 block of Hawthorne Avenue. Officers found two males, both of whom were suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Bullock was pronounced dead on the scene at 3:32 p.m., the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office stated.
Bullock was a junior at Barringer Academy of the Arts and Humanities, a family member told NJ.com.

A second victim, a 17-year-old Newark resident, was transported to an area hospital for treatment. As of Saturday, the 17-year-old was listed in “stable condition,” authorities said.
The name of the surviving victim is not being released for security reasons, Essex County prosecutors said. An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
